What is a Rubber Squeegee?

A squeegee is a cleaning device used to pull or push water off flat surfaces. It is made of a stiff rubber blade that is mounted upon a long plastic, steel or wooden handle. It is also commonly known as a wiper as it wipes liquids off. Using the handle for leverage water or any other liquid wiped across flat surfaces making them dry. It has a number of applications and is commonly found in different sizes.

Applications of Rubber Squeegees

Rubber squeegees are used in a number of places. Their use remains the same: wiping water off surfaces. Here are some of the most common uses of squeegees:

  • Sailboats: Larger squeegees are used to push water off the deck and clean it after a fishing trip.

  • Windows: Small handheld squeegees are used to clean glass surfaces of all kinds. This includes home windows, windshields, glass walls, glass doors and even acrylic surfaces.

  • Tiles: Using squeegee water can easily be cleared off tiles, making it very easy and fast to clean private and public toilets.

  • Mineral Spirits and Petroleum Based Products: Squeegees can more or less be used to wipe away any other liquid. FDA approved rubber does not react with these liquids either.

How to Use a Rubber Squeegee

Using a squeegee is extremely easy. Supposing you are off to clean the glass walls and doors of an office using a squeegee, here is what you will need.

  • Pressure pump

  • Washcloth

  • Soapy water in a bucket

  • Rubber squeegee

  • Pair of gloves

You may need to work with water for some time so gloves will protect your hands. Use the pressure pump to wet the glass wall. This in itself should be enough to clean off any dirt on the surface due to the hot and pressurized water. In case there are any deposits on the glass surface, use a washcloth dipped in soapy water to rub it off. Use the squeegee to wipe water off the surface starting from the top. Do this by holding it so that the rubber blade is in a vertical position. Now glide the squeegee is a long left to right motion and repeat till you reach the bottom of the wall. Use a microfiber cloth to clean any water marks that may have remained.
